Unsure what happens for you yanks, but in the UK they sometimes take a small amount out before delivery to see if the bank account doesn't bounce.

When you first place your order they will put the amount on hold for 3 days, after that the fund is released till the phone is shipped. Once they ship the phone, you will see the charge on your CC for the amount that you paid for the phone.
