Hey guys I am going on a visit to Manchester, UK for a week. What should I do with my iPhone while I am there?

I am w atnt and phone is jail broken. Should I unlock it? And take it there and put o2 mini sim there and use that? Or I should buy some extra international minutes from atnt? Or is there something I got to turn off in my settings so I don't get billed!
Thanks

If its unlocked then just buy some pay as you go minutes and data from whomever you like when you are over there. TMobile, Orange, O2, take your pick.

If you don't mind unlocking it, it'll be the cheapest way to go about it. Prices are very competitive here and all the major providers (O2, Vodafone, T-Mobile, Orange and Three) cater to the iPhone.

The only stumbling block I can think of is that, whilst you can get a normal PAYG sim pretty much anywhere, I don't know what the availability of micro-sims is like on the High Street, if you don't already have one.

can someone post rates or a link to a site that compares the different rates? I'll be going to London in late July early August. im looking for something that offers unlimited data, some texts and talk time.

You have a big hurdle to overcome unlocking the phone. Unless you have the original baseband you will not be able to unlock. The Three web site linked here is being misinterpreted by the user. The 15 sterling plan is a rolling monthly contract. You need a UK credit card that they can charge each month.
You can call up each month and decline that month but you will not even get the plan without UK card.

There are good pay and go plans with all the carriers and you can get data as well generally for an extra 10 sterling. A micro sim on pay and go not available everywhere.

The fact that you mentioned "mini-sim"/micro SIM indicates to me that you have an iPhone 4. Unless you got it in June and haven't updated it since, you can kiss your unlocking hopes and dreams goodbye. Your iPhone 4 will become an iPod Touch in the UK. Your best bet is to buy a dumbphone and unlock it and use it in the UK on PAYG SIM or buy a factory unlocked iPhone 4 in the UK and sell your AT&T one when you get back to the States (this could actually pan out nicely for you).

No, if you click on the PAYG link, it too has a £15 option.

I've heard Gevey Sim Turbo works, but have not tried it personally. Looking for solutions as I will be visiting London for 10 weeks in the fall and really want to use my iPhone 4 but I am not jailbroken and am running 4.3.3

I'm visiting the UK next week and have a Gevey sim (on 4.3.1) and am planning on using it on three. Does anyone know if it's possible to get just one of these on an iPhone 4 micro sim?

Let us know how it works. I was under the impression you had to have the "Gevey Sim Turbo" for the iP4 but maybe not.

Also, I'm thinking you can just get any SIM card and then cut it down to size?

Pricing here: http://www.three.co.uk/Pay_As_You_Go/Add_ons

Order your free micro sim here: http://www.three.co.uk/_standalone/PaygMicroFreeSim

I'm also sure they would probably give you one in one of their many stores.

Regular sim or micro sim can have the same add-ons. Just buy a sim, top up and choice your add-on.

I got my SIM this morning, and it's working just fine. When I asked for a SIM, they only have them preloaded with the £15 all-in-one plan. It's a bit difficult getting the SIM to fit around the chip on the Gevey (I don't think it's like that with the PRO) as the contact is near the edge of the SIM. The activation process was simple, but you have to wait a while after the no SIM message.
