Hello all!

I'm living in Ireland, but have a girlfriend based in the US. she used to use an iPhone 4 but finished her contract and changed providers and got iphone 5.

She decided to let me have her old iphone 4, but had to get it replaced in an apple store for 150usd due to some broken glass etc. after a fall.

I got it from her last week and popped in my sim, the phone was on the activation set of screens, but my carrier (three Ireland, shows up as 3) and some bars for network coverage was in the top left corner, upon finiishing the screens, I get "only compatible sim cards from a supported carrier bypass"

I got home a bit later and jail broke it with redsn0w. In the about screen it would recognize Three as my carrier but it wouldn't import contacts from my Sim or recognize my number, the network was showing as "no serve" and "searching..." too. I've since restored with itunes, but it wont detect three as my carrier or let me get any network coverage.

What are common messages if a phone is locked? If it IS locked, why did it get coverage and show the network name when I first inserted my sim?

I've considered going around the city to a couple of network stores and trying different sims to see if it's a problem with my carrier, I've also considered paying/ringing at&T for an emie unlock.

If anyone has any ideas or advice I'd appreciate it.
