Hi all,

I have recently purchased the iPhone 4 from the US and its currently on its way to me as I'm not living oversees, I have been told that even the phones that are shipped outside will be locked, this also happened to my friends who got their phones few days ago.

I'm wondering if there is any website or service that will provide legal unlock codes for a fee or for free so we can get our phones unlocked.

I'm just trying to avoid contacting AT&T because it will be a long hassle dealing with them, I have paid the full price for the iPhone but it will just take a lot of time explaining the matter to them.

Would appreciate any help.

Thanks

Best,
Maxi

There is no such thing as an unlock code for an iPhone. The unlock details are stored on an Apple server (the iPhone serial is stored in a list of unlocked phones). Whenever you activate via iTunes it contacts the server to check if it should lock/unlock the phone. If the phone is locked (all US ones are) then the carrier (AT&T) have to add the device to the database. AT&T don't do this (not sure why, O2 in the UK will for their phones). So you are left using the jailbrake route to unlock only.
