Iphone 4 Unlocked w/ T-Moile ?

Hi, Im kinda new but I have already read the stickied threads here.

Im interested in getting an unlocked iphone and then using it w/ T-mobile (no data plan/I will disable the data plan usage) ?
Can I just buy an unlocked iphone from ebay ? Or would I need one exclusively for the US (not Europe?) ? I heard Canada is getting some factory unlocked Iphone 4, could I just buy one from canada and use it here ?

Does unlocking an Iphone 4 mean than I cant use iOS 4 or even get any updates from apple ? What about my apps from my itunes account ? *Note I do not want to jailbreak it, i just want to unlock it and use it w/ t-mobile.....Is that possible ?

Would apple brick my iphone once they find out im using it with T-mobile in the United States ?

yes you can buy any Factory unlocked Iphone 4 or any other Though understand T-mobile in the US only supports Edge so internet will be slow. also very difficult to get factory unlocked right now they command high dollars.

Apple does not brick iPhone no matter what! if you can find a legit phone
you can update anytime you want having a unlocked factory phone does not prevent your updating. however you are with out warranty unless you have it serviced in that country!

P.S. Be Careful buying on Ebay and other places allot of scams going on! if it sounds to good to be true (It IS!)

I been using my iPhone on T-Mobile for two years and told them i have it.

Hmm ok thanks guys. So If i unlocked the iphone 4 by myself ... I would only lose the warranty ? Can I still run the normal iOS 4 w/ updates without needing to jailbreak it ?

Is there any difference between factory unlocked and if you do it youself ?

Would you recommend me to just wait until Canada gets their unlocked iphone 4 in a few weeks and then just buy one from there and use it here in the US w/ T-mobile?

I think you need to do some searching and reading! these questions have been answered allot. I will help again but google is awesome!

iphone 4 can not be unlocked at the moment. they are close but nobody knows when. you must jb then ul. if you restore firmware as new you still have warrenty. however Apple will still want you to active on AT&T so that can cause a problem.

factory unlocked no jb is needed and you can update firmware and not loose your unlock


do it yourself you must be careful never update till jb/ul firmware is released a skill lots of people don't have.

Im planning on getting an iphone 4 as soon as possible, when do you guys expect the prices to go down ? maybe early August ish ? or would they stay in this ~900 dollar range for a while ?

I sometimes thing there is a misunderstanding on this Forum about the T-Mobile network. They do certainly support 3G in the US not edge only. The Iphone does not support the T-Mobile 3G frequency, but lots of other phones do.

Is but since he wants a iPhone 4 that will cost him about a grand if he wants a factory unlocked. he should understand that the internet will be on the slow side. TS might find that it's not worth it on T-mobile at the moment. Some people don't care but I hate to see him spend the money and find out after. Again TS if it sounds to good to be true it's a scam ebay is full of iPhone scams right now. look at what the seller sells if he is a power seller that sells t-shirts and suddenly selling iPhones somebody most likely stole his id. a unlocked iPhone 4 for less then a grand is not likely!

T-Mobile certainly does 3G in the US. Why are you saying that it's EDGE only?

He meant all iphones models only support Edge for interent if unlocked to be used with Tmobile USA.
Tmobile does provide 3G service but its not compatible with any iphones out right now and since the OP is asking about the iphone on an iphone forum thats what Labman was talking about.
Is it that hard to understand where he was getting at?
