I had a look at the The Universal Guide to Jailbreaking thread. Three questions that didn't get answered there:

1) If I jailbreak my phone: can I still purchase and sync apps via iTunes? i.e.: is Cydia just another alternative, or is it the ONLY way to purchase apps?

2) Which jailbreak would you recommend for an iPhone 4?

3) The only reason why I'd like to jailbreak my phone is to install an app similar to "Little Snitch" or extensions like Ghostery etc... to prevent data-mining. Can anyone recommend a good app for this purpose?

Thank you!

1. Cydia is simply a repository for jailbreak tweaks and apps. It supplements the App store. It does not replace it. You can still do anything with iTunes/App Store that you currently do - although some apps have jailbreak detection and can either refuse to work or limit features if they detect a jailbreak.

But there's a tweak for that. ;) tsProtector 8

2. Jailbreaks are dependent on the version of iOS that you are currently using - not the model of iPhone. We need to know what version of iOS you have.

3. Firewall IP 7. There's also Guizmo DNS if you are interested in changing the DNS server for your device. There are also a whole slew of ad blockers. I don't use them so I can't recommend one.

Thanks for your explanations!
I'm using iOS 7.1.2 – iOS 8 won't run on iPhone 4. What jailbreak would you recommend for that?
