iPhone 4 white color problems

I just came back from the local T-Mobile store over here (Germany).
They told me that Apple does not send out white iPhone 4s and is unable to give a date, because they are having problems with the white color. According to the T-Mobile store employee the color peels off.

Has anyone heard something like this before?

It's...it's underneath a layer of glass. Where can it peel to?

They're making up stuff because Apple won't tell anyone why the white isn't available yet. Some people don't know how to just flat out say "I don't know."
