My Dad has had his iPhone 4 since launch. The other day he noticed a yellow tinge on his screen in the top left corner. Almost like someone has drawn a spot with a highlighter pen. Does this mean the screen is on the way out and would need to be replaced?

Yep. Or, the pee yellow defect could stay that way for 10 years, no one knows. If it's not under warranty, leave it or pay to have it fixed. If it was bought new less than a year ago, take it in, they will replace it.
