Anyone know why I'm not able to load nearly as many songs on my iPhone 4S 64GB as my old iPod 40GB?

I had nearly 5000 songs on the iPod.
Maximum number on the iPhone is 1245 songs.

I don't have that many apps or photos.

Apps are using .77 GB
Photos are using .02
Other .75
Audio 55.8

Umm, really? I have 2644 songs on my 32G iPhone -- I have the convert higher bit songs to 128B AAC on ... and I still have 12.7G free.

I wonder if I should convert the .aif files to .mp3? I didn't have to before with my old iPod.

Just try switching the setting I mentioned above. It'll leave your current files as is and simply convert them on copy to your device.

Wow, that solved my problem. Thank you very much.

I just never remember having to do that on my iPod 3rd Gen.

Thanks again!
