I bought a badly broken 4S on right side of screen.

I replaced the screen and nothing came on. It would not connect to I-Tunes. Unknown Device.

I cleaned the contacts with Dexoit and it came on and worked and Itunes restored it to factory settings but I had not replace the shield covering the motherboard.

When I replaced the metal shield, it would not work and would get hot.
I removed the shield and it stared working again but is still getting hot.

Any solutions and what is the purpose of the shield? Is their a normal temp range for them to operate? It does not recongnize Wi-fi

shield

I'm sure Apple did not put that shield on there without reason. You need to figure out why your phone doesn't work with it installed. I've fixed a few and I cannot think of how that shield could cause your phone not to work.... but it should be visible.

As far as the heat... it's a complete guess but I think the shield may help to disperse the heat and/or your reception has been reduced causing the phone to work harder to make a good connection to cell service or wifi.
