iPhone 4S and Gevey Ultra S

So I decided it's time to get an iPhone 4S.

1. Buy locked to AT&T iPhone 4S, will be shipped outside US.
2. Buy Gevey Ultra S for iPhone 4S.
3. Unlock the phone.

Does the phone need to be already activated if i'm doing the unlock outside the US or can I activate it outside the US with an AT&T sim card? Also I understand that facetime and iMessage will only work with an email. Anything else important I should know, will I run into problems?
I've waited a long time and i'm deciding it's time to get this phone.

if i were you, i would get a factory unlocked phone. No need for garvey sim and all the features would work. AND no issues with any settings.

I can get a used AT&T iphone 4S much cheaper, buying directly from apple isn't an option for me, costs much more. I can't seem to find any factory unlocked iphone 4S anywere.

Unless you need it like TODAY, wait a few months until the new phone is announced. Then the 4s's unlocked will FLOOD the market.
Ebay has a few unlocked 4s's for under 600USD.
