iPhone 4s Apple ID problem log in

Hello there expert just wanna ask any suggesrion/ help if i could change an email add for a new apple id? the scenario is this a friend of mine reset her second hand iphone4s, but when it boot up it ask the apple id to proceed, now this is her problem the apple id registered was for the first owner of the iphone, and the owner already forgot the email use for the apple id, my question is can i still open it using my own email to send for password that was forgotten by the first owner?

Only the original Apple ID that the phone is tied to can be used. The original owner can go through a password reset process to hopefully get into the account and remove the device so that your friend could use it.
