I would venture to say that a device dying before it reached 0% is not normal.

As far as help, I'm not sure what can be done except maybe trying a reboot and if that doesn't work a restore from new maybe. Has this been happening regularly or was it just one time?

It means the battery isn't properly calibrated, you need to let it run down, so it completely drains and shuts off again, then plug it in and let it charge back to 100% without using it.
