I'm looking for a car mount that clips to my dashboard. I just want something with a swivel arm and a clip/clamp so I can attach it to the hood over the instrument cluster (see pic below).

What I don't want:

  • To mount the phone with a suction cup because those fall off sometimes
  • To mount it to the AC vent because it's way too hot in the summer to block that even a little.

If anyone has seen a mount like that, a link would be great appreciated.

I know you said no suction cup, but you should really check this one out from iOttie:

I've got mine mounted on its side and its still an incredibly strong hold.

Yup, I have the iOttie and I love it. Only minus I can think of is it can swivel back and forth between landscape and portrait easiliy.

You can try http://www.proclipusa.com/ if you want a more custom solution, but they are on the expensive side.

Thanks but I really don't want a suction cup. I have one for a Magellan and it falls off pretty regularly when it gets hot outside (I live in a part of Texas where 100°+ days are very regular between May and September).

I checked them but unfortunately it looks like those block the AC vent on my car ('09 VW Jetta). Thanks for the tip, though.

EDIT: Just found this: Only $17 w/ two-day shipping (Amazon Prime) so I thought I'd try it out. Could be just the thing.

I'm shopping for a car mount also. I have the Magellan GPS mount for my 4S, but that won't work now since I got the iPhone 5 :D

Saw the iOttie that the previous poster mentioned, but I prefer being able to mount on the vent in case if I travel to a state that doesn't allow a windshield mount like CA. I'm think between these. Have any of one used one of these?

I'm really torn. Kensington comes with both the windshield and vent mount, but I afraid it won't fit well with the iPhone 5. The iOttie doesn't seem to be able to mount onto he vent. And Cingo is nice, but I don't know if I can fully trust that it will hold the phone securely over time. I don't want a mount that is too bulky, and no extra support at the bottom of the mount so I can easily connect power and headphones jack to it. Any suggestions? Thank you.

I got the iOttie Easy Flex 2, and I'm very happy with it. The suction is monster! Unlike every other windshield suction I've used before, it doesn't let go, even with 100*+ temps.

I also like how compact it is when folded up. It's much easier to toss it into a carry-on without worrying about a piece snapping off.

BTW, CA changed the laws a couple of years back, and we're now allowed to use windshield mounts on the bottom section of the windshield. I have mine up 100% of the time when driving, and it's never been an issue.

It's funny that you suggested the Easy Flex II, because that's the one I got in the end. Got it in the mail last week from Amazon, and so far I'm really liking the mount. It's small, and the lightning port and headphone jack are now blocked at all. I mount mine on the dashboard, and the suction cup is super strong, especially when mounting it on a windshield. I hope you like yours too. Thanks for the great suggestion :)

I recently got the Just Mobile Xtand Go. You can either use the suction cup or you can mount the button to something with double sided tape, as I did. You can then either use the bracket for the phone, the suction cup for the phone, or stick another button on the phone (or your case) which is what I did. I'm hoping the bumper will be taller than the button, but I'm doubting it. I'm ok with the phone sitting on the button though. The phone it held nice and secure in the car. I am very happy with it.
