iphone 4s headphone issue?

on my iphone 4S running iOS 5.0.1, when i plug in the default apple earbuds, the music still goes to the earbuds, but it still comes out of the speakers. is this normal? is there any way to disable this?

Are you sure you have them plugged in the whole way? Because no, it shouldn't do that.

EDIT: got it fixing, i just rebooted the phone... weird

Well, get used to it. It's an Apple thing, the first step of trouble shooting should be a reboot, it fixes many oddities by resetting the OS.
