I recently bought a 2nd hand iPhone 4S, which is great, but there's been 1 thing nagging at the back of my mind when using it. The home button, compared to other Apple devices I've used feels quite 'soft', i.e. it doesn't noticeably 'click' when I press it. The button functions perfectly apart from this; double clicks and single clicks all register fine first time, every time, I'm just worried that it may be a sign of impending home button doom?

Also, does anyone know how much a home button replacement would cost at a phone repair shop in the UK? I've had a quick look, but most shops seem to focus on screen repairs.

Going to the Apple store would seem to be your best bet to get the home button replacement.

It doesn't need replacing, as it works absolutely perfectly apart from not clicking. It's not under warranty, if it does stop functioning (hypothetically speaking) any idea how much Apple would charge for a home button replacement?

Many 4S's get soft home buttons after years of use. The cost of replacing it at Apple is the cost of a OOW repair, $199.

If it bugs you that much, there are people on ebay that repair iPhones for much cheaper.

This particular one is a little over a year old.

Funnily enough, my sister's iPhone 4 which was bought at launch has had very heavy use since, has a very clicky home button which doesn't work, I'd say 1 out of 10 clicks registers.

As long as it carries on working as well as it does at moment, I'm not too bothered by it. I was just worried that it might be a sign that it's going to stop working soon.

Hmm, my 4S home button is still super clicky.

However my room mate just got rid of his 4 for a 5s and his 4 home button was shot. Barely even recognized a push.

I heard the home button goes bad after getting too much gunk in the charge port area? (at least for 30 pin generations) I've always used port covers so maybe that's why my home button feels like new.
