I really want the iphone 4s because i'm due for an upgrade through AT&T. However I'm deploying to Japan for 6 months and I was wondering if I could put a sim card in it purchased from over there and still get 3G and make a few calls and stuff. If thats not possible i'm going to hold off my purchase until I get back.

Also I know Sprint and Verizon aren't going to unlock the sim slot until a few months after purchase is this going to be the same with AT&T?

i believe if you get the iPhone subsidized price (199$, 299$, 399$) it is most likely lock. That is why they are gonna have unlock IP4S available to purchase at full price starting at 649$ if I'm not mistaken for 16GB

Thats just too much money up front. I'll just wait till I get back. I want to buy it unlocked at the start because I deploy in november. If AT&T won't subsidize then I won't buy it.
