Iphone 4S IOS upgrade

I have reading the various posts on upgrading IOS to fix the battery issue, but I would like to know besides the "contacts" issue, will it modify or destroy anything else on my phone...e.g. apps, calendar etc?. Excuse my ignorance, but I am coming from the BB Storm environment and any upgrade annihilates the phone.

No problem. Upgrade over wifi and it downloads a patch only. Very simple.

This is true. No anihilation problem with the iPhone
