Iphone 4s keeps saying exchange password incorrect

My wife is coming from android and needs her google contacts synced. I successfully set up the exchange account for gmail and the contacts showed up along with all her mail. Every few minutes though a pop-up appears asking for the exchange password saying it is incorrect. I am positive the password and login are correct. Is there a way to fix this or another way to sync google contacts? thanks

Is the android still checking emails too? Google have limits on simultaneous/short-time-delay email checking. it may be this.

The android phone has already been wiped clean and has a new owner. I did some googling and saw similar complaints going back for a couple years, so this must be fairly common. I just didn't see any clear cut fixes. I was wondering if there's perhaps an app in the app store that can sync stuff maybe...
