iPhone 4S Manually Manage Music and Video

I want to manually manage music and videos on my new iPhone 4S. I have iTunes on both a PC and a Mac. With my iPod, I can add music from either iTunes library to my iPod. I thought that was the case if I checked "Manually Manage Music and Videos". When I check this, it erases all my music. Ok, then I can add music. But when I plug it into my other computer, but box is no longer checked. And if I do check it, it wants to erase my iPhone again. So it appears I can only manage music on one computer. This is annoying and bad.

Anyone else having this problem?
