So I signed a contract with orange for a htc but 3 months into the contract I lost the phone and didnt have insurance so at the moment I'm just using an old phone with the sim and still paying the original monthly price.

I just preordered the iphone 4s. Rang up orange today to ask if I could transfer my contract to a micro sim to be used for the iphone and they told me it would cost me an extra £10 PER MONTH just for the mirco sim! Just because the iphone uses 'more data.'

Is this true? Can I just cut my own sim card and put it into the iphone? Or would that sim card really not work due to the 'extra data'?

It will work on a unlocked iphone (i.e. bought directly from Apple) but there a risk that you might break the sim cutting it.
Best thing to do is buy a micro sim cutter on ebay for around £3.
