iPhone 4S not charging?

I just bought a brand new iPhone 4S. I brought it home and it won't charge when I plug it into my laptop. iTunes doesn't recognize it either. It charges just fine when plugged into the wall. I don't know what's wrong

Maybe something is wrong with your charge cord in conjunction with the computer? Do you have the latest version of iTunes. What kind of laptop/how old? Hmm..Sorry I don't really know what I'm talking about but I'm trying to help.

I've been trying to reinstall the newest version of iTunes but it is taking a while since I have really slow internet. I have a Dell that is about 4 years old. I can plug in other things to the USB hubs and they work but it won't charge my phone.
