iPhone 4S Ordered.. Possible 14 days shipping?

So I ordered my iPhone 4S (Black 16GB) in the AT&T store and they said I should have the phone on the 14th or 15th. I looked up my order online when I got home and it says that it can take up to 14 days for the phone to be shipped due to high demand and orders are a first come first serve basis. Is this the case? Is AT&T just preparing us for the worse case scenario? What is the purpose of pre ordering if we can't have the phone on the release date?

Yeah I preordered my iPhone today thur a UK network Orange they told me it might take upto 30days! but they said i was one of the first to pre order it this morning so hopefully ill get it next friday!

I pre-ordered mine this morning via att website within 10 minutes of pre- ordering opening and I don't even have an estimated shipping date; my status is "backordered." WTF is up with this???

Verizon shows ship date 10/13, delivery by date 10/14 on mine.

That's why its always best to buy from the source. Apple controls the supply and the majority of the stock goes to people who ordered directly from Apple, the carriers come second.

Under my circumstance, this was my original goal. After 40 minutes of the Apple store not being updated last night I ordered through Verizon in about 2 minutes.

I think the same thing happend last year too, it depends where you are in the preorder line. If att runs out of their inital batch you will get your iPhone in the second shipment when ever that is.

Same thing. Tried to order through Apple for a half hour. Gave up and my AT&T order went right through.

I got an email from AT&T saying it may take 14-21 days to ship. However, I received a similar email last year with the iPhone 4 and still received it on release day.

Well that makes me feel a little better. I looked online and my order says pending shipment but it says no estimated date. I called the automated system and it says my order is back ordered. The lady at the store when ordering said that I will have it on the 14th or 15th. I just called the store back and they said they can't control when the phone ships. I am getting mixed signals from every source lol!

I am deploying soon for a month. I better get my phone next friday or saturday.
