Hi all I'm a new member so bear with me.
I have an iPhone 4s which has decided to stop working.
When I plug it in to connect to iTunes or to plug in to charge all I get is a handset that boots to the apple logo then turns back off and continues to do this until taken from the power.
Does any of you have any tricks up your sleeve that could help me get to the bottom of my problem.
My first thought was maybe the battery is poorly and needs changed but I'm just not sure.
Any help I will be eternally grateful
Daz

I'm hoping that it's just a time difference on ere or something
Either that or this isn't a very helpful community

When plugged in, what does the iTunes summary say? Does it offer to let you restore it? Have you taken it back to the store?

Try pressing and holding the power and back buttons for 10 seconds. This is the hard reset.

It doesn't come up with anything when plugged into iTunes and I took it to apple store and they told me it would be cheaper to buy a new handset as this one is out of warranty.
Typical!!
When I plug the handset in it turns on to the apple logo but turns off and on continuously when plugged in.
As soon as it's disconnected from any power it just stays off
Much appreciated for your answer and help

Never heard of this problem. They told you an iphone 4S was too old? WTF? I BOUGHT my 4S for $80 and they expect me to blow $650 on a new phone if mine were to stop functioning?

That was exactly my thoughts when I was in the apple store too.
They think everyone has a bottomless pot a money if they have apple products and normally are very helpful but as soon as that dreaded warranty runs out they are your worst enemy.
And it costs a whole lot more then for repairs.
My genuine guess is it's the battery

For a replacement 4s its like $249... And what do you expect? If you bring in a 3 year old phone, they arent just going to whip out a brand new 5s for you... Smh.

OP if you don't mind losing everything on the phone (hopefully you have a current backup) then you could try putting it in DFU mode, restore as new, then restore your backup on it. If no backup you can still start fresh and put accounts and apps back on manually. You'll lose what wasn't backed up.

There's a thread of a guy that got his wet and it went into the same boot loop. He managed to get it into DFU mode, and where there's DFU mode there's hope.

Good luck!

If all else fails I'd buy a new battery. It's easy to replace and you'll be out only ten or so dollars if it turns out not to be the problem. If you've had it for 2-3 years it might well be worn out.

Unfortunately they are telling you the truth. Electronics, even only a few years old, are not worth the labor to repair. At the most I would try a new battery and if that didi not work, I would take advantage of one of the great offers on a newer phone.
