iPhone 4S speaker hissing issues

My friend's 4S started making a hissing noise, when turning the phone off and on, it won't play music through the speaker.

Any ideas/thoughts/etc?

Easier said than done, my friend lives hours from an apple store. Wondered if anyone here had any suggestions before resorting to that

Give Apple a call and get it done that way. I always call because I don't have a store near me either. If it's covered under warranty then they will mail you referbished phone
