iphone 4s stuck in recovery error-1

i have been given a iphone 4s by a friend who had the phone for a few months and was jail braked by absinte and it is stuck in recovery mode and wont restore it keeps coming up error-1.
please can anyone help me sort this phone out or is it dead

Use redsn0w or TinyUmbrella to kick it out of recovery mode. It should bring you to a set up screen afterwards.

If that doesn't work then take it to the Apple Store and get a new one. They'll usually replace iPhones with software areas with no question. All 4S's are still in warranty.
