I have a 16gb iPhone 4S in excellent condition. Now that Apple has their iPhone trade-in program, do you guys think my 4S will be valued enough to upgrade to a 16gb 5S when it comes out, without having to spend any extra money out of my pocket?

Doubtful, I think the trade in will be less then the purchase price.

I still have my 4S and might upgrade to 5S depending.

I'll probably just sell my 4S myself on eBay (can prob still get $300.00+ depending on condition), or keep it as a backup.

I remember reading that the most Apple will give is $285. Although I assume it would be less than that for a 4S.

it's worth mentioning the prices being offered today will likely drop a bit when the 5s comes out. i think you'd be much better off selling the phone on craigslist.

Thank you for the input everyone. I have thought about it some more and have decided that once my 2-year contract with AT&T is up in November, I will have AT&T unlock my 4S and I will sell it on eBay or Craigslist.

I think by the time the 5S comes out you should still be able to get $250.00 easily for a 4S, especially if it's mint. This is of course if you sell yourself. Selling to a store will never yield the appropriate amount of money because they are obviously trying to make money.

its 215 for a 16gb 4s. I went to the store. It cost 200 + Tax + 35 bucks activation fee if you have AT&T or Verizon. So still going to set you back at good 50 bucks at least.

I am selling my on craigslist for $250-300 or trying to trade it for something.

walked into an Apple store today to see what the trade in "estimate" would be for my 4s as I'm anxious to move up to the 5s when it becomes available. My 4s is a 32g and in perfect shape. BTW I'm on a Verizon with contract that has expired and is now month to month.

A long time Apple genius (and a good) guy looked it up, fiddled with a small light (the kind the nose, ear specialist uses to look at ear wax) then proclaimed I would get, drum roll please: $67 !!!!

wow, am I underwhelmed... That amount is an insult, but maybe that is what Apple is only able to offer??? Anyone else have a similar result?

Guess my next stop is a Verizon store....

Don't ever go to a store to sell your phone back if you actually want to make money. Sell it on craigslist or eBay.

Even on Gazelle, a 32GB iPhone 4S (depending on carrier) in perfect condition is worth $175.00. And that $175.00 offer is good until October 15th, according to the site.

You do not need to wait for your contract to expire, it can be done now.
