Ok, let's get some folks to test this and see how well it works. I hope it's not a fake.

1. Insert original carrier AT&T SIM card
2. Dial 611 for AT&T customer service hotline and drop the call
3. Turn on Airplane Mode
4. Take out AT&T SIM card
5. Insert T-Mobile SIM card
6. Make sure WiFi is off ( also tap on ‘Forget this Network" to make sure it doesn't connect automatically later)
7. Switch off Airplane Mode and iPhone will search for network. This is followed by the Apple splash screen appearing.
8. Activation Required will be displayed on the screen
9. EDGE network will activate automatically – notice the ‘E' on the top left corner of the screen
10. Wait for about 20-30 seconds and turn off the phone
11. Turn on iPhone and the same Activation Required screen will be displayed
12. When you see one signal bar, tap on Use Cellular Connection
13. Eject SIM card
14. Activation Required screen will be displayed the second time
15. Insert SIM card
16. Unlocked!

I have only one question..

How do they define "drop the call"? Call 611 and then hang up? Or call 611 then go directly into Airplane mode? "drop the call" is a bit ambiguous..

I think to drop call all you have to do is press the power button once!

I can't get this to work, no matter what I try. At one point I had 4 bars of service, the E for Edge but T-Mobile never popped up as the carrier and the phone went right back to the activation screen.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong but steps 12-16 are not working for me the way it's explained.

On step 13 when I eject the SIM card I don't get the activation screen again. It just stays at my home screen and of course putting the SIM back in brings up the activation screen again.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but I can't get it to work. And I honestly can't tell what the guy in the video is doing in the last few steps to see where I'm going wrong.

Anyone else have luck with this?

Can't get this to work either. I never get the Activation Required window, just the SIM Failure.

If anyone has any insight on what I should try please do tell, thanks

There is a video on iclarified

Thanks for this. According to the video on iClarified, the guy made the call, waited until he heard the automated system pick up, then hung up the call (pressed the red End button). If that works, I'll be sure to try it on the 4S I'm getting in in the next week.

Does it have to be Tmobile?

If I can try with a different sim, I have a couple of international ones in my desk I can try out

Try it; just make sure you have a data plan on the international sims though...

Fake

Jailbreak Matrix confirmed that this is a fake solution. It is only for a few seconds and then it is back to square one

Also from Musclenerd

Today was example of Apple echo chamber..all blogs repeating same "unlock" story without verifying 1st hand (so as not to be scooped?)
