I bought a used iphone 4s from Amazon, and the description said it was unlocked/contract free. However, in the "about" section, Carrier is "Verizon 12.0". Two questions...
1) since it says verizon, does that mean it's only compatible with verizon?
2) I'm going to be using AT&T. Do I need an AT&T sim card?

IF your iPhone is a Verizon iPhone, it will not work with AT&T.

AT&T, T-Mobile both use MicroSIM cards because they are GSM network.

Verizon and Sprint use CDMA network, so they don't use sim cards, just the phone only.

If its a Verizon phone it will only work on Verizon domestically (not AT&T, T-Mobile, or Sprint), but it can be unlocked for international use.

Can I use it with T-mobile then?

no you can't. The Verizon, and Sprint for that matter, unlock if for international carriers only. As that phone will find Verizon service it will attach to it's network regardless of what sim is used.
That phone will not work in the US with AT&T/t-mobile.
