My friend and his wife each have an iPhone 3gs. Her line is eligible for an upgrade and she's fine with him using her upgrade to get an iPhone 4s this month.

Here's the problem.... He pays for her phone, but his is paid for by his company and he has no access to make any kind of changes on that account. He can't even see how many minutes he uses or what calls appear on the bill. So he won't be able to go into a store and have the numbers transferred officially. (He can't upgrade through corporate as they have a stockpile of iPhone 4 handsets waiting to go out.)

My thought is that he will purchase the phone on her account and then cut his 3gs SIM to fit the 4s. Will this work? Any special hoops to go through during activation? He'd prefer not to have to use a SIM adapter to put the 4s SIM in her 3gs after the swap. Any way just to keep her SIM whole (and safely in the 3gs) and just activate the 4s using his trimmed SIM?

He always goes to me for tech help, but I've never dealt with something like this.
