So other than the fact that the non OEM iPhone 5 USB lighting cables charge at roughly half the speed and do not supposedly have the 'speed chip' or whatever it is inside of them, what are some other possible cons I should watch out for? I have heard that they can affect the overall battery life of the iPhone 5's internal battery, which worries me considering they are very difficult to remove and replace.

All in all, I just don't feel like paying 40 dollars for a USB charger and cable. I think its just ridiculous. Well, it is.

Just make sure the cable you buy/own is MFi certified/Apple Certified.
