I just received an iPhone 5 as a Christmas gift. I called to activate the phone and accept the user agreement, but was told that it had already been accepted/[activated?] in store. I followed the prompts and set up the phone, but it is still showing no service. My old iPhone still works as well. I am unable to speak with a representative due to the holiday. Was hoping I could figure this out in order to set up the phone now.

Have you tried restarting the phone and/or ejecting the sim and putting it in again. From personal experience i had this happen to me and that fixed it in one of the cases. Is the iPhone locked to a carrier because you could be using a different carrier to the one the phone is locked to.

I did try that, but it didn't work. However I called the AT&T after hours number and had them activate it for me, so problem solved!
