So i have just bought a new iphone 5 from some guy off gumtree, he stated the phone was unlocked. so i got myself a sim only contract on Three. I tried to set up the phone but it stated something like the following

"Use the correct sim card provided with the phone courrier"

he says he doest know what corrier the phone is on as he thought it was unlocked.

any solutions?

Its quite possible that its locked out to a specific carrier/network.

As far as i'm aware only iPhone 5's bought from Apple Uk are unlocked.

It seems a bit dubious that he does not know what network it was bought with !

If it was from carphone warehouse then the first sim he used will have locked out the iphone to that network

so basically i have no way of actually activating it?

You need to know from the original owner what network this was on.

Or you could go thro all the Uk networks nano sims one by one assuming it was supplied originally in the Uk.Which would be a job in itself getting the actual nano sims from each network !
