This past summer I installed a new Pioneer AVH-3400BH receiver in my vehicle. I had to purchase a special cable from Pioneer to allow my iPhone 4 to interface with the head unit. It plugged into the dock and the other plug had to be in the headphone jack (to the aux in jack on the stereo) to get sound through the stereo speakers. I was a little bummed because I just bought the new iPhone 5 and I obviously do not have a cable for the stereo. So I tried my lightening cable. It works. Flawlessly. All features work on the stereo head unit, and I do not have to have a cable plugged into the headphone jack of the phone. So what has changed, or didn't I need that ridiculously overpriced $50 pioneer cable for the iPhone 4 to begin with? The manual states that Pandora will not function without Pioneer's cable. It does on the new iP5!
