iphone 5 apps to ipad

I don't have an ipad as of yet but i was told that when downloading a app on the iphone it automatically goes to the ipad as well.. Would there be a way to stop this? i want my ipad separate from the iphone.

On your iPhone, go to settings>iTunes & App Store turn off automatic downloads.
