I pre-ordered my iPhone 5 from Apple.com the minute it was available and it arrived on Friday, Sept. 21st in the first wave of shipments. I am on AT&T grandfathered unlimited data plan.

I have just checked my IMEI through 3 sites and all of them say my phone is unlocked. I thought Verizon was the only company shipping unlocked phones? Could these sites have false info?

Thanks!

It could be the IMEI sites are reporting back bad info. I read in another thread those sites have not been updated with iPhone 5 IMEI numbers yet.

It's cheap to find out... You can order a T-Mobile Prepaid SIM for $.99 (it comes with $3.34 on it for some reason), cut it, and see what happens...

Same here. I've seen 3 AT&T pre-ordered phones show up as unlocked but no actual SIM to verify that...
