Can anyone give some input into what this microphone is used for? Does it assist with recording of videos, i.e. it picks up voices/sounds better?

Or is it only used for noise canceling while on a call? Thanks!

There are three microphones on the iPhone 5. The one at the bottom is used for normal voice pickup.

The one in the earpiece is used for noise cancellation from the earpiece itself and during speakerphone calls.

The one on the rear is used for noise cancellation, and during video calling.

I just got a Iphone 5, when I have my earbuds plugged in the back microphone still is picking up sound. So if I put the phone in my pocket the person on the other end hears all the rubbing from my pants when I walk around. Or if I have the phone on the counter and and doing other things they hear all that, and have a hard time hearing me.

When the earbuds are not plugged in the phone works fine.

Can we set something that turns that mic off when the earbuds are plugged in?

thanx
