iPhone 5 Bad ESN Verizon Activation

I am getting a great deal on BAD ESN Verizon iPhone 5 (MD665LL/A) from a local pawn sim. I am planning to use it abroad for GSM Use.
I have few queries
1. Do I need a verizon sim to activate the iPhone after iOS7 or future iOS updates? Right now it runs iOS 6.1.4
2. Do all the Verizon iPhone 5 are GSM unlocked???
3. Any know issues due to BAD ESN in future use with GSM Carriers abroad?

1. No, you can use any GSM sim from abroad, not sure if it will activate with a US SIM

2. Yes, on the GSM side they are.

3. Nope, it'll act as a gsm unlocked iphone that you can use anywhere except the US and Canada (I think)

A bad ESN could mean a stolen phone.

Right now there are no issues abroad, but at some point US carriers could start exchanging stolen phone data with carriers around the world.

I am wondering what your final experience is? were you able to successfully use the bad esn verizon phone overseas? I am planning to buy a bad esn phone and wondering if it works out or not.

Just make sure its not activation locked with icloud.
Or you'd be stuck with a useless device.
