Going to Germany in a few weeks and successfully obtained an unlock from AT&T for my iPhone 5 (BTW, if you were still under contract but did an early upgrade with Next to an iP6, your previous phone is now considered out of contract and eligible for unlock. Otherwise I'd have to wait until November). My iPhone 6 is due to be here next Friday, so now my plan is to get a SIM card when I land for my iPhone 5 and carry both phones with me and use it as a WiFi hotspot for me and the people I'm traveling with.
I know hotspot kills battery pretty quickly - when you're actively using data. But let's say I keep my 6 connected to my 5's network, not necessarily for constant data usage like web surfing, but just so push e-mails, notifications and iMessages come in (all of which use minimal amounts of data), does anyone know what sort of battery life can I expect? Just wondering if this is feasible or if I should suck it up and buy a prepaid int'l data pack from AT&T.
