Bit of an odd one - my girlfriend's iPhone 5 is acting up.

When you unlock the phone, it is fine. The screen looks good and responds well. This lasts for anywhere between 2 and 60 seconds, before the screen starts to go a little grey, horizontal lines start appearing, the brightness dims and it stops responding to your touch, or randomly gets fixed one one area (e.g a key on the keyboard) and repeatedly presses that (resulting in mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm for instance)

However bad it gets, as soon as you lock the screen and unlock it it is instantly fine again.

Lowering the screen brightness right down and turning off auto brightness seems to have extended how long it lasts before messing up, but it's definitely not a complete fix.

There was a third party case on it which has been used for some months with no issue, removed this and nothing has changed.

Can't work out what it is... if it was a hardware issue I don't think lock-unlock would fix it as quickly as it does... it seems a bit too bizarre to be a software issue... nobody has sent her that stupid bug text before anyone suggests that...

Any ideas/anyone seen anything like this before? Not sure it's worth taking to Apple as it's fairly old, her contract is up in a couple of months - might just get her a 6.

EDIT: Obviously I've tried restarting etc etc
