Hey guys. Everytime I set my iPhone down, I hear the camera rattle. I can set it down slightly, and I hear it. Is this normal? Should I get a replacement?

Been doing it since the 3GS. It's because the camera has moving parts (auto focus).

are you sure the rattle isn't from the power button on top?
No, it isn't my power button. It is very annoying. I set it down, and I hear it. Once I heard it, now I can't forget about it, ugh.

And it can't be auto-focus. My S3 didn't do it, and it has autofocus.

My iPhone 5 did that too. I'd put it to my ear and it would make a rattle. My buddy just got his replaced tonight at the Apple store. Only one of their floor models did this. My friend's is completely silent.

Go exchange it or live with it. Seems like very few of them are doing this.

I will be giving Apple a call. Thanks!

Mine does that so I went to the apple store. Played around with all the display models and every single one of them rattles.

There is rattling, which is normal if you tap on the camera. Then there is when you move your phone LIGHTLY and it seems like a piece is actually moving or loose in the camera lens. NOT NORMAL.

I bet his is faulty. :)

Nope. We both went over it inch by inch haha. Checked for:

Loud camera rattling
Light Leak
Yellow Screen
Scuff
Loose Battery
Loose Sleep Wake button
Loose home button

Everything is good. I was a little envious considering my phone isn't perfect. But I decided to go back to the 4S anyway. Don't like the form factor on the 5.

So he has no rattling at ALL? Even tapping it? If it doesn't, that means mine shouldn't be making a sound. Right?

It should rattle, but only if you tape on it, or shake it excessively. If your barely moving the phone setting it down it shouldn't rattle.

If you can put the phone by your ear and lightly move it up and down or left to right and hear a rattle, then thats bad and I would exchange it.

In my case I am returning mine. Totally unacceptable since there are many that are completely silent.

On the phone with Apple, they will replace it. Hope it is a good one! :p

I agree. I can shake my phone next to my ear up and down, left and right, side to side and won't hear anything. I gently tap the back glass, I can hear the rattle immediately.

Yeah well I'd rather have this issue than my friend. He had horizontal lines in his status bar that wouldn't go away.

Every single phone that has an autofocus camera will have a little rattling sound. I've had 5 different smartphones this year to confirm that. iPhone 4S, HTC Vivid, HTC One X, Galaxy S3, iPhone 5. They all do it.

Wait, didn't you just say it was perfect? lol

That was his defective unit. His replacement model they gave him is perfect.

You are RIGHT, but to an extent. Try picking up my iP5 and gently moving it, like raising it to your ear and you'll hear an obnoxious rattle in the lens. More like a loose piece moving around.

NOT NORMAL.

Mine does exactly what you are talking about. Hope the one I get it good. :/

I have read threads about this, and it's one issue that really confuses me. My 4S has never rattled and it has autofocus. But with others, it does. I'm.also very familiar with the MyTouch 4G Slide, and it doesn't do that. Same with the Sensation and the IPhone 4. Yet plenty of people can attest to the fact that it does on their phones.

How is it that there's so much variation in this? It makes a noise when it auto focuses, but not any other time. For me at least. Though I seem to be in the minority in this case.

I'm no hater, I'm legitimately curious.
