Hi all, I have an iPhone 5 that is on 7.1. One day, I started up the camera app and it took about a minute to boot into the camera. After that incident, the next time I tried to use the camera app, it booted into black screen. I reset settings, restored, set up as new and it was exactly the same. Black screen with lagging buttons.

I could switch to video or square, but the camera was still black. However, I could switch to the front camera without any problems and it would work. This lead me to believe that I had a hardware issue. I purchased a replacement camera module, for $5 and did the replacement myself.

I followed the exact instructions on ifixit and was able to complete the repair in 30 min. (without losing a single screw!).

I am just proud of myself. Hope this helps anyone else who is also out of warranty and do not want to spend the $270 on a replacement phone! :D
