I was looking at a youtube video today with safari and has the HQ option turned on, the video seemed to be playing at 360p or 480p. I tried it on both wifi and 3G and the quality is about the same. I tried it on jasmine but it was still the same. I went to download the youtube iOS app. It seemed sharper because of the double letter boxing(if I said it correctly) and made the video smaller. I used my mothers galaxy s3 and it seemed to play very sharp at 720p. Is it just me or does this apply to all the iPhones?

Get Jasmine and set the preferred video quality to 720p / 1080p under the video playback settings. Great YouTube client by the Alien Blue creator, if you've ever used that.

Thank you that worked. One more question, is there a difference between 1080p and 720p on the iphone? They seem the same, I think they don't have enough pixels to display that high of a resolution in such a small screen am I right?
