I just recently upgraded from my iPhone 5 to an iPhone 5s. I am trying to erase my iPhone 5, but it won't let me because "Find My iPhone" is still on. But, it won't let me turn off "Find My iPhone" because there is no internet connection, since this particular phone doesn't have service anymore.

Is there a workaround?
Has this happened to anyone else?

Worst case scenario, I'll just take my phone to the Apple Store to ask what to do...

Connect to wifi? You should still be able to do that.

Swap the SIM card from the 5s to the 5? If you're on a GSM carrier, that'll give you internet access. The Apple store isn't going to disable Find my iPhone because it is tied into the activation lock.

like many others have said you should have tried to connect to wifi first, this will work.

I fixed it.

The WIFI way didn't work, but I basically the just booted the phone into Recovery mode.

Because it's not your phone. Any legit owner will know how to disable it.

Now once it's restored, still you can't activate as the lock is in apple server
