Hi guys, I have an iphone 5 (13 months old) running 7.0.4 and for the past few weeks has been playing up.

First off, the battery percentage jumps around like crazy - went from 95% to 17%, then put in the charger and went back to around 64%. So I did the battery calibration a couple of times, which hasn't solved the problem.

More worryingly, the phone will switch itself off at around 40%, and when I try and turn it on it will just show that I need to charge it. After a few minutes, I'm able to turn the phone back on but it will switch off again after a few minutes use, again showing 40ish%. This cycle can repeat for a good 5-6 times before the phone won't switch on again unless it is plugged in.

I've tried a restore from backup and restore from new. So do you guys think this is this a hardware defect and I should take it to apple? It's really getting on my nerves now. I'm aware that I'm out of warranty and will probably cost me >£100 to get a replacement but will probably get a 5S anyway if they don't do a straight swap.

Thanks
