my iphone5 blacked out on me and i brought it to the genius bar today itself. apparently it was hardware problem and not due to my negligence. would have gotten it easily replaced if my warranty was valid but it expired only 19 days earlier. is there any other way i can get it replaced?? advice needed... thanks!!

Out of Warranty replacement. $269, direct swap with your dead phone. Avoids contract extension and having to pay full price or the higher subsidized rate.

They didn't tell you you could do that? If not, shame on them.

As others have said, pay the replacement fee and remember to buy Applecare next time.

Sometimes you'll come across a defect that is covered under a service bulletin, in this case you would probably be covered. Unfortunately, I don't know of any of these that exist for the iPhone 5.
