My phone got wet, so I took it apart and let it dry out. I bought a new battery online and replaced the old battery (it was somewhat melted). The phone still won't turn on and it doesn't seem to take a charge when I plug it into the wall.

Any other components to check/replace?

Replace the iPhone component. You're phone is toast.

People get their phone wet and think by just replacing the battery everything will just magically work.
I don't get it.
What about all the components that are shorted out and internals that got corroded?

That's what I suspected. I figured for $20 the battery was worth a shot.

I just wanted to give it the old college try before I trashed the phone.

It's $229 at the Apple Store for a replacement phone. But I think you need to put the old battery back in.
