Never had an iPhone out of a case ... Little to no cases yet for the 5 so I have been carrying it naked. Starting to like it and even had a few minor drops without damage.

Today I dropped it on a hard floor. Picked it up and had a small chip on band by the vibration switch but no glass damage. Thought wow that's not too bad. Looked at it about 2 hours later and there is a hairline crack from that area to the ear speaker. Right over the light sensor!

Have AppleCare plus ... Thankfully!

Question do you think the light sensor will be effected?
Also I am thinking of letting it get worst / holding out to use up a replacement - what do you guys think?

I think you should get it replaced and pay the $49 deductible THEN get a case for it since you are obviously very prone to dropping it.

There are no Apple-approved cases in the stores yet but any carrier store will have a variety of third party cases you can put it in for the time being.
