iPhone 5 half works with Macbook Pro Retina USB ports. Whats wrong?

I am not sure whats to blame but my iPhone 5 will beep and say charging and then the charging indicator will go away and beep again over and over if plugged into the left USB port. In the right port it works fine. Plugged into the wall its fine.

Is this a software/firmware thing with the macbook or phone? Lightning cable perhaps? Or do I need to make a long hour plus journey to an apple store for repair?

My ip5 charges in both sides so it may be an issue with your MBPr. Sounds like a trip to the store. Sorry 'bout that.

As an update, I plugged in my iphone 4 to the same port and it does the same thing. Apparently a Macbook Pro problem.

any chance of how this played out?
I'm getting the same issue on my new 15" MBP
left USB port does the beep/recognise/disconnect iPhone 5 also very very slow to recognise a USB drive
right side USB port not a thing wrong with it.
with only 2 USB ports I can't afford to be without one ....
