I keep a screen protector on my iPhone 5 and wipe off the fingerprints and oil every so often with a little bit of rubbing alcohol. I wipe down the home button too, but I'm wondering if fluid could get inside through the home button.

I saw that the home button has a gasket. Does that seal off the plastic surface of the button from the inside?

Normally I would take apart a device to have a look to satisfy my curiosity, but I don't have the tools and I kind of need to have a working phone.

As long as you dont put the alcohol directly onto the home button you should be fine. Ive had a single drop of water land right on my 5s home button and it said to try fingerprint scan again :D
